How much can I actually save with solar in Arizona?
Typical year-one bill drop for a SunWright residential install in the Phoenix metro is $1,800–$2,800, depending on your starting bill, roof orientation, and whether you add storage. Over 25 years — factoring 9% annual utility-rate escalation, current APS / SRP / TEP plans, and the 30% federal credit — cash-purchase customers typically net $54,000–$78,000 in lifetime savings on an 8–10 kW system. Is the federal solar tax credit still 30%?
Yes — the Residential Clean Energy Credit is currently 30% of the total installed system cost (panels, inverters, battery, labor, permitting) with no cap, in effect through 2032. It steps down to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034 before sunsetting. It's a nonrefundable credit, so you need federal tax liability to use it, but unused portions carry forward indefinitely. We strongly recommend talking to your CPA — we model the credit in every quote but we are not your tax advisor.
What's NEM 3.0 and does it apply to me in Arizona?
Net Energy Metering 3.0 is the California utility rule (effective April 2023) that slashed export credits from full retail to roughly 25% of retail — it does not apply in Arizona. Arizona has its own structure: APS uses an Export Rate Rider that's roughly 7–8¢/kWh (versus ~12¢ retail), SRP has the EZ-3 demand-rate program, and TEP uses an annual instantaneous net-metering credit at the avoided-cost rate. We model your specific utility's export math in every quote so you see the real numbers — not California's.
Powerwall 3 vs Enphase IQ Battery 5P — which should I pick?
Both are excellent; the right one depends on your existing system. Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh usable, 11.5 kW continuous, integrated 11.5 kW solar inverter) is the right call for whole-home backup with high surge loads (well pumps, central AC compressors). Enphase 5P (5 kWh modular, stack up to 4) is the right call if you already have Enphase microinverters or want incremental sizing. Powerwall 3 is roughly $11,500 installed for a single unit; an Enphase 5P stack is $9,200 for 5 kWh, $17,000 for 10 kWh. We carry both, we install both, and we are explicit about which is better for your house — neither is sponsored.
What if my roof needs to be replaced first?
Be honest about the roof age before you spend money on solar. If your shingle roof has fewer than 10 years of remaining life, replace first — pulling a 25-year solar array off a roof for re-roofing costs $2,500–$4,500. We do a roof condition assessment on every site visit; if we think you need a re-roof in the next 5 years, we will tell you to handle that first and we'll come back. We have referral relationships with three roofers we trust and zero kickback arrangement with any of them.
Cash, $0-down loan, lease, or PPA — what's the difference?
Cash gives you the highest 25-year value (you own the system + claim the federal credit) but requires upfront capital. $0-down loan finances the system at 6.99–8.99% over 10/15/25 years — you still own + claim the credit, and the monthly payment is usually lower than the utility bill it replaces. Lease and PPA mean SunWright owns the panels and you pay a fixed monthly fee (lease) or a per-kWh rate below your utility's (PPA); the federal credit goes to us, not you, but there's $0 down and $0 maintenance. We model all four in every quote and let you pick.
Do solar panels survive Arizona hail and monsoon storms?
Yes. SunPower Maxeon (and most Tier-1 residential panels) are rated for 1" hail at 50 mph per UL 61730 / IEC 61215. Phoenix and Tucson see hail of that size or larger less than once every 10 years on average. We've had three hail events worth filing claims on across 1,200+ installs since 2014 — total panel replacement count was 11 (less than 0.05% of panels installed), all covered under manufacturer warranty. Wind: Maxeon panels are rated for 140 mph uplift, well above design wind speeds for the Valley.
Who do I call if something stops working in year 8?
